7 Small Changes That Will Make The Difference With Your Mazda 6 Key Fob
Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob

There's nothing more annoying than stepping into your vehicle after a long day and discovering that the key fob battery is dead. This is a straightforward fix that can be found at a big box retailer or hardware store.

A spare key fob for your Mazda 3 is an inexpensive option to not have to be towed to a dealership to have them re-program your keys.

Battery Replacement

Change the battery in the Mazda 3 key fob is an easy task that you can perform at home. However, you should only replace the battery when it goes out of service, or if the key fob displays a message in the multi-information display stating, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."

You'll need a flathead screwdriver, tape and patience to open the case. Locate a notch or gap in the bottom portion of the metal of the Mazda 3's key fob and then insert the tip of the screwdriver in it to pry off the lower portion. Repeat the process for the top metal piece, but be sure not to damage the rubber ring that is on the bottom of the case.

When the fob case is open, you'll be able to see the slot on either side of the case, which houses the battery. Use the tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver to gently the case open, beginning on one side before moving to the other. Take out G28CarKeys and replace it with a brand new one, making sure to place it face-up to ensure the correct orientation. Finally, place the cap back on and then reattach both sides of the key fob case. Keep pressing until you hear them click.

After replacing the battery, lock and unlock your doors to ensure that the fob works. If everything seems to be in good order you're good to go. Mazda 3 remote features can be used again.

Pairing Issues

If your key fob has stopped working suddenly it could be a sign that the transmitter inside the car has been damaged. It is typically a need for an expert repair and will likely need a new key fob.

If you've tried replacing the battery and reprogramming the key fob but did not resolve the issue it is possible that the chip inside the key fob may be defective. This could happen if the keyfob was dropped or exposed to saltwater or was touched by dirty fingers.

You will need to locate the small "key", which is built into the seam, in order to remove the circuit board and diagnose the issue. Then, you can check the electronic chip for damage or corrosion. To avoid damaging the chip, it is best to use a fresh paper towel.

If you're not sure, you can also check the battery connector terminals for cracks or breakage. If this is the situation, soldering the terminals back into place will typically bring back functionality to the key fob. Also, you can check the buttons to determine if they are worn or damaged. If the buttons are loosened, they can be soldered back into place, unless one has physically snapped.

Interference Signals

Few things are more frustrating than staring at a "No Fob Detected" message when trying to start your vehicle. It usually happens at the most inconvenient times, such as when you're running late for work or if you're picking up kids from school/daycare. The good news is that there are a few steps you can take to pinpoint the issue and determine what is causing it.

Interference signals can cause the remote key fob to stop functioning properly. This can be caused by objects such as buildings, weather conditions, and transmitters that operate on the same frequency. Interference could also occur if you have aftermarket equipment installed in the vehicle that transmits at the same frequency as the key fob.

The key fob may also be damaged if it is exposed to salt water or water. Water can get into the rubber seals of the electronic chip particularly when the key fob has been submerged in water for an extended duration. The chip can stop working and require replacement of the keyfob. If you have a key that can be programmed to work, you can clean it using isopropyl or electronic cleaners to bring it back to its original function. If this does not help the chip, it's likely to be damaged and will need to be replaced.

Locking and Unlocking the Doors

The buttons on the key fob send electronic signals to a solenoid within the car. It converts the signal into a mechanical action that locks and unlocks doors. If the door lock does not work it could be because of an issue with the solenoid. This will require professional repair shops to analyze.

A dead 12V battery can also hinder the fob from functioning effectively. This could happen if the battery loses its charge or if the contactors become corroded, and stop transferring electricity. The good news is that a new battery is able to fix this problem in just minutes.

If the key fob isn't functioning after you change the battery or program it again the problem could be in the receiver module. The device interprets radio frequency signals received by the key fob to control the vehicle. It can be a costly repair if it becomes faulty.

To check whether this is the case, begin by inserting the spare key into the key slot and turning the ignition to ON. Press the key fob twice in 10 seconds, without taking it out. The Mazda 3 system will now connect the key to the car and allow you to use it as your primary remote for driving. This lets you program up to three keys.
