How To Explain Double Pushchair To Your Grandparents
Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around with a light double pushchair, especially if you have children of different ages. They are generally easy to fold, steer and transport up and down the stairs.

This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also features adjustable reclining, large UPF 50+ canopies and windows that peek out. It also has an expanding frame the width to accommodate the second car seat or an additional passenger.

Side-by-Side

The majority of the light double pushchairs that we tested were side-by-side models. These are best for children who can sit up without assistance, as they aren't as likely to have car seat compatibility. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent options. They offer recline that can be adjusted for both seats, a huge canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They're also easy to move despite their larger footprint and are great for parents worried about fitting through doorways.

The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because it features a unique frame that expands in width to allow for an additional child seat. This makes it slimmer than other side-byside pushchairs. It can be pushed through standard doorways and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It's also a jogger, which is great when you're planning to use it in conjunction with an infant carrier or car seat, and comes in a range of fun colors.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another fantastic side-by-side double that is lightweight. It allows for an even greater degree of customization due to the modular frame. It features a clever design that lets you convert it into a single buggy or a double with the addition of two car seats or carrycots (it can even take twins). It's an outstandingly practical choice for growing families and the UPPAbaby makes one of the lightest and stylish umbrella strollers available.

Try the egg2 that folds down to the size and weight of a small suitcase. It can be used as a single or double with the addition of two carrycots or infant car seats and our home testers were awed by the sleek and easy it was to use even when stuffed with children.

Even though they are lightweight double pushchairs side-by-side do not guarantee safety. If your children are at the same age and stage, they may still argue over who gets to sit in which spot. If they are at different heights, a tandem style may be best for them, as it allows them to face each other.

Tandem

While side-by-side models are more appropriate for siblings with similar ages, tandem lightweight double pushchairs are a different kind of pushchair with their own appeal. Some can accommodate carseats that are larger, and others have reversible seats. Others have an extra carrycot or a reclined seat that can be flipped in the middle. They are generally more spacious and easy to access and exit from the baskets, though they are usually smaller than those on single buggies. Many have larger canopies as well as peekaboo windows, and even padding for the leg cushions.

The iCandy Peach is another example of a lightweight and affordable tandem. The fabrics are a little less luxurious than those of some of our top-rated doubles. But, it looks great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is awe-inspiring. Although it takes some practice, Kirstie from our Lab described it as "genius". It's not foldable with the carrycot attached but the mechanism for attaching and taking it off it is simple and quick.

Tandem lightweight double strollers will usually make tighter turning than side-byside models. However, double pram and pushchair could be difficult to drive on uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be slower to accelerate and more heavy to move. This puts strain on your back.

Another option is a convertible double buggy that starts out as a single and then you add adapters to turn it into a double. It could have the option of a second seat, a carrycot or both in the front. The children can sit together. Some also have the option of incorporating buggy boards, which can help older children keep up with a younger sibling.

The Uppababy Vista V2 is a good example of a convertible, as it can also convert into a twin pram through the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) that create a lie-flat area for infants. They can be placed side by side or attached to each other's faces and you can use them in conjunction with the infant car seat that is included with the pushchair (as as long as you choose an appropriate one). Because they're made from high-quality materials, these kinds of dual-use buggies can often be used for many years without showing much wear, which means they have a high price resales.

Single-to-Double

This light double buggy was designed for families who love the outdoors and would like to upgrade from an individual-stroller. It can be converted into a jogger using the kit that comes with air-filled tires and all-wheel-suspension. It is also a good choice for twins, or children from different ages and, as a triple tandem, it's able to take on rough terrain. It's a great choice for parents who want a sleek style that's as sleek as a single and comes in various colors of fabric.

This iCandy model is very easy to fold using the use of a single hand. Although it's heavier than some of the other single-to-double pushchairs featured in this review, our home tester Karolina stated that it is very maneuverable, even when she had two toddlers and a carrycot in it.

You can purchase additional items like the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) which are great for babies. The seats are comfortable for toddlers with excellent headrests and lumbar support. There are numerous options for reclined seats and the front seat is adjustable in various positions and the back seat offering an option to recline.

The biggest drawback with this kind of buggy is that it tends to be larger overall than the side-by-side doubles, which makes it harder to maneuver through doorways, and is difficult to maneuver around kerbs. The wheels and suspension of these strollers are generally good at coping with paved surfaces. They're also lighter than many side-bysides and, therefore, you can get a lot of storage. It's worth bearing in mind that strollers of this type aren't as adept at getting through narrow aisles in supermarkets and aren't able to cope with a lot of shopping. It's easier to turn around even on the smallest of curving paths but it can be difficult to turn them around on a straight path. Some are also more easy to turn than others, with the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for example.

Convertible

The best thing about convertible double pushchairs is that they can adapt to the changing family needs. They often start out as single buggies, but include adapters to add an additional seat, a carrycot or (in some instances) the car seat to the frame. Some are able to be converted to a single when your older child starts to walk or prefers to ride buggyboards.

This stylish tri-fold double stroller is one of the lightest strollers on our list. It can carry up to 40 pounds per child, and includes an integrated storage basket between the seats. The large canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining chairs as well as front and back suspensions to ensure smoother and more comfortable riding on rough terrain were appreciated by testers at home. It also comes with a handy cup holder for the parent as well as an ample, easily accessible basket. However, they noticed that the backs of the seats have tiny pockets that aren't big enough to hold much more than a cell phone and keys.

This high-end, lightweight side-by-side can be used in more than 20 configurations, and comes with a second seat and carrycot. It features a high-profile steering handlebar, rear and front suspensions to smooth out rough terrain, a compact fold that can stand on its own with straps that make it easy to transportation, and seven-inch front wheel with swivel locks as well as ten-inch back wheels with suspensions for an easier ride. The only downside is that you'll have to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.

This versatile tandem is a popular choice among our home testers for its maneuverability and large shopping basket that can be accessed with both seats facing the parent. It is a breeze to maneuver due to its surprisingly low weight (about the equivalent of some single pushchairs). Many have praised the clever way it attaches the second seat or riding board to the back. Parents also appreciated the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seats from various brands. This includes a few that aren't normally compatible with other double buggies.
